Christmas spirit?

Several friends have implied that my white beard makes me look like Santa. And they haven't seen my belly, which would tend to add to that impression 8-))).

But seriously, Christmas is fast upon us and this makes me long for the days when our children were younger. We never did try to teach our children that the presents came from Santa, as we felt that all gifts come from God, and the glory and thanks should go to him. In any case, the time around the Christmas tree on Christmas morning was sweet, as the children would unwrap a present and their eyes would light up when they found that toy they were wanting for so long.

It wasn't long before the children grew up. Each year, it was harder and harder to meet their expectations. Now, the children are grown and they buy whatever they want for themselves. We still exchange presents, but it's just not quite the same.

I wonder if Father God feels the same way about us. I remember how I was as a new Christian, all excited about the gifts that my Father God had given me. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't sense that same attitude in myself these days. And isn't that what Christmas is all about? God gave us all the ultimate gift of His Son. Somehow, I think He probably misses our gratitude, as we get caught up in the commercial "spirit" of Christmas.
