All modems are not created equal
I found a new modem for my laptop. It's a 56K by Creative Labs. So far, I am not at all happy with it. I am getting 26.4 connections, where my build-in modem was getting close to 56K and I am losing connection quite often this morning. It may be that my ISP is having problems, but I wonder. I wish I had something to compare it to.

When I built this box about three years ago, I went through three PCI modems that didn't work right. Finally I decided to look at reviews, and got a Zoom modem. It wasn't any better. I went to the tech support guy at my ISP and he said not to get anything other than 3Com, and suggested a place in Santa Cruz. He said he'd set up over 300 people with it with no problems. I'm still using it.

Thanks for the tip Terry. I think I'm going to box this modem up and see if I can't find a 3com in a pc card type.
