Problem solved
My database problem at work is fixed. I was able to put humpty dumpty back together again. I am still cough free and no medicine for cough taken today. I would be thrilled if I continue this way!

Ok, so I am curious now, what exactly is your job? (Aside from general problem solver?)

I help support a remote network of RS-6000 servers and the Sybase databases and replication servers on each system. It's a government system for tracking loan repayments in the USDA. It's a pretty wide range of applications we support. Everything from SQL database stuff to C programs and AIX (Unix) scripts. We also have PCs that we support. All of the system is off-site from where we are - some in Wash DC and the rest at sites around the country.

Ahh, that sounds interesting, although I don't think I am the support type of guy (too easily frustrated). It is really amazing though how similar that sounds to the job I do (SQL, C, AIX (not me personally, but our dept)), except I just write the applications :)

At first I was hoping that you did Education Dept stuff, so that you could 'fix' my student loans ;)

Re:
Heh, nope, sorry about that! What type of applications do you write and what do you use to write them?

I actually work for a legal publishing company (West Group. I am currently working on a couple different projects. The one I have been working on the longest is Chap 7..13 Bankruptcy for Windows, which is written in Borland Delphi. It uses a Borland BDE or MS Access Database, depending on the version. I am also the sole developer (lucky me) on Enflex, which is an environmental compliance law resouce. That is written in perl for the frontend and using a custom sqlish database for the backend from Humingbird Software, formally called Fulcrum. Another key part of my job is reading and writing in LiveJournal :)

Don't tell anyone, but that's part of my job description too. ;-)

I have heard much good about Borland Delphi. I've seen some pretty good software written with it. I did a little bit of Perl at one time, but I'm sure I've forgotten it by now!

Cough-free must be pretty welcome at this point ;)
