The deed is done!

First, a very happy birthday to stephi! I hope you are having a very special day and are so busy having fun that you haven't checked your LJ! :-)

I just voted! I was encouraged at the number of people voting today at the Johnson County Election Office. The parking lot was so full that you had to wait for someone leaving to get a spot.

I was a bit disappointed to find us voting with paper ballots. They were the kinds where you have to fill the little circle to indicate your vote. I suppose they would not have been able to serve so many at once using the limited number of machines, but on the other hand, the voting would have been a faster individual process.

Many states allow early voting, just as they allow voting in absentia. Actually, I used the same ballot that I would have used if I had applied to vote by mail, but I filled it out at the election offices. They look me up on the computer and mark that I have voted I suppose. I marked the ballot and put it in an envelope that I signed. The ballot itself has no id on it, so the vote is annonymous.

hmm! Very cool! I know other states have early voting, but I don't think we do here in OK.

We use paper cards that are punched out in the precincts, but are filled in with #2 pencil when voting absentee. Before I started voting absentee, I never saw an incomplete punchthrough - ie, no hanging chads. So I don't think Santa Cruz Country was forced to go electronic like Santa Clara and Monterey Counties were.

Coloring in little squares with #2 pencil is rather a pain in the butt, though - it's like grade school, where you have to color within the lines ;)

This was with a black pen., but much the same!

Thanks Gary!

That's very sweet of you!

I'm always glad to see people voting. It's fun isn't it? I've always enjoyed it anyway.

Have a good day!

Re: :)
There was a time when I didn't really enjoy it, but I do know. Sadly, I have not always been aware of the issues, but it somehow seems more important now!
